Hurry Home

By: Stephanie MacDonald

I'd ask how you were

but I already know the answer

You sacrificed time with family

friends, and even yourself

to help ensure a better future

It takes a true hero to risk their life

But it's hard making sense of all this strife

So much destruction, death, and fear

Through the fire and its flames

In your heart know I'm still near

You may not be able to see me

or even feel my touch

But this one thing is true

and it's that I love you so much

Yes, you stand up for your country

and you quickly win that war

I don't want to have to wait longer

to be with you anymore

It may be a little selfish

that I want you home to myself

to remove the unending fear of ashes

just sitting on a shelf

Yes, you are brave and you stay strong

try to right at least some of these wrongs

Please keep standing tall

and fight the good fight

I'll be at home waiting

while keeping on the light
