Solitary Confinement

By: Stephanie MacDonald

I thought I was by myself

until it started to storm

cold beyond my bones

my spirit left and took cover

into confinement but not reborn

this is truly being alone

escaped the bars to reach a wall

a distant shell that lost it's way

whether this is death or life

they both contain decay

don't drag me down farther

now solitary and still

alone in darkness I can rest

embraced by shadows

 in absence of will
