Our Thoughts, Ourselves

Turning off the mind isn't always an easy task. It seems as though our minds contain both the thoughts we purposely think of as well as ones we seemingly have no control over-- at times, like a record player! Not being able to turn off those "voices" and thoughts when we want to can be frustrating and make it hard to relax. How often we go to meditate and find ourselves just sitting there, telling ourselves to shut up already! Why is it so difficult to just be quiet and still? It seems we have been programmed in a sense to do anything and everything to not feel "bored"-- especially nowadays with an excess of screens and technological distractions everywhere!

We've become so distracted that we begin to lose touch with the core of ourselves and miss out on the amazing potential that exists within and around us. Our minds seem like a jumbled mess and happiness somehow always right out of reach. We sit and let the thoughts play out, begin to believe the negative ones hold more weight, then become frustrated and go on to find things to complain about. Maybe for some the question isn't "how can I turn off these thoughts?" but rather:

Are my thoughts serving the purpose of helping or hindering my progress?

Negative thoughts are never going to benefit us and this really needs to be taken to heart. No one ever says they feel wonderful and fabulous after a big bout of arguing, worrying, or complaining! This serves our being no purpose! The first step is to simply become aware of that little (or big!) voice that tells us we can't, we aren't good enough, something bad is going to happen and so on. When we recognize the negative thought, we can tell ourselves that we choose to not identify with it and replace it intentionally with a positive one. That way, when we are sitting and trying to meditate, we may start with our same busy mind but we will fight back by being equally busy counteracting the unhelpful thoughts with helpful ones. We will see slowly but surely, a balance and then a quietness that grows and expands.

The first voice may say "you are never going to meditate correctly, you aren't made for this" but you firmly counteract it with "practice makes perfect, I know I am doing my best!" It may almost be like arguing with yourself in the beginning, correcting yourself as much as you can, but as long as you purposely and wholeheartedly replace the negatives with positives, eventually the negatives will become far and fewer between all on their own. This happens for the simple fact that the more positive thoughts you give yourself, the more you will attract success and that which you desire. It may sound old but there is major truth behind the saying "Thoughts become things." We are magnets, we will always get more of the same of whatever we think about most. We must pay attention.

Allow and command your life to transform into the best version of itself-- it all starts with your thoughts!

May we turn to meditation in our times of "boredness" so we can alter its very definition into that of a time of personal reflection. There is so much more to us beneath our untamed passing thoughts and this discovery can only be found in the stillness and silence of meditation. And yes, you can achieve this state of peace! Do not be discouraged if there is chatter in the beginning, let them be lessons for you to train yourself to shed a little light on every shadow that pops up! Extend the practice into thoughts you pick up on outside of meditation. Begin by purposely changing the language inside your head and then manifesting real feelings of gratitude and thanks as if whatever it is you want, is already here and yours.

This works in all areas of our lives. If we practice being grateful for whatever it is we seek and intentionally refuse to focus on the lack thereof, we will only in this way attract more of the good, easily and effortlessly. We are more powerful than we think ourselves to be. Considering how many years so many of us have spent allowing and perfecting the voices inside our heads that don't help us, we must now realize how our time now can be better spent so that our potential is no longer overlooked. It is time to take control back! It is time to see that nothing is stopping us from giving ourselves a new script to follow-- and this time one of TRUTH!

Our mind vehicle just got a new driver, and while the old one may try very hard to tell you that this "new guy" can't drive, we will prove him wrong! We are a successful and nothing can get in the way any longer-- it is a choice! Become your own a record player of positivity and see what you start to attract!
